If you’ve ever met me before, it is entirely possible that I have mentioned TED Talks to you before. I am a BIG fan of TED which touts itself as “a small non-profit dedicated to Ideas Worth Spreading”. They put together two annual conferences where leaders from a range of fields and disciplines around the world talk on a subject for approximately 15 minutes. The original scope of topics began with technology, entertainment and design but has now broadened into science, business, the arts and the global issues facing our world. The ‘talks’ are then published to their website, where they freely offer to the public “a clearinghouse of free knowledge and inspiration from the world’s most inspired thinkers, and a community of curious souls to engage with ideas and each other.” You can search their database of over 700 talks (for free!) by topic or speaker and they definitely make good on the promise to deliver inspiration!
Although it is not a part of TED, I have just been introduced to a new online event (happening right now!) which is running through a similar vein. GreenShifters is a 4-day teleseries aimed at bringing us inspiration from current pioneers on the “leading edge of the Sustainability Revolution”. Although today will mark day 3 of the event, all of the previous two days presentations are available on the website for free! If you register for the event you can participate in conference calls which will allow you to pose questions to the presenters and have live discussion with all of those participating. In addition, there are online forums taking place in Facebook, LinkedIn and Twitter.
I encourage everyone out there to check these out and get to know some of the worlds current great thinkers and all of their ideas worth spreading!
