Since 2006 when EVstudio was formed, Dean has been directly involved in the design of thousands of residential units and millions of square feet of residential and commercial buildings. He takes an integrated multidisciplinary approach to all of his projects, seamlessly blending architectural design with practical engineering that results in visually stunning, cost effective, and efficient, sustainable designs. Dean also has a history of successfully navigating complex entitlements processes, presenting to community groups and easing projects and clients through sometimes difficult public processes.

Dean has spoken at industry events nationwide, including multiple appearances at The International Builder’s Show and the World of Modular on topics ranging from design for resiliency, building performance, building technology, sustainability, and design for manufacturing.

As a result of Dean’s multidisciplinary and sustainability background, he has served as a juror for the NREL Solar Decathlon, an annual event hosted by the DOE that is focused on net zero housing solutions internationally. Additionally, Dean has served as a peer reviewer for NREL technical articles on off-site construction, building performance, and sustainability, and regularly collaborates with the NREL team.

At the state level, Dean currently serves as the Architectural advisor on the Department of Local Affairs Technical Advisory Committee, assisting in regulatory decision-making for housing across the state. At the county level, Dean is on the Jefferson County Regulatory Advisory Panel, advising on zoning and land use issues. At the local level, Dean serves as the President of the Evergreen Legacy Foundation, a local non-profit focused on improving the public safety infrastructure in the unincorporated mountain town in which he lives.

Dean is also an owner of commercial and residential property across the Rocky Mountain Region. As such, he shares a unique perspective with his Clients with a deep understanding of management and maintenance costs as well as owner’s risk, and how all of this can be mitigated with intentional design. Dean is a Colorado native, having lived in Littleton, Boulder, Breckenridge, and now currently Evergreen. He has a wife and two adult children, and together they enjoy skiing, biking, camping, and share a love for music. Dean has been spotted from time to time playing guitar and mandolin in a band known locally as “The Midday Sons”.
