Building Hope: Our Team Volunteers with Habitat for Humanity

Our team of Architects and Engineers joined Habitat for Humanity for a rewarding volunteer experience. We left the drafting tables, and our computers, behind and rolled up our sleeves to help build homes for families in need in partnership. We partnered with Flatirons Habitat for Humanity, Boulder Valley School District and BoulderMOD.

The team was volunteering to celebrate EVstudio’s 19th year of business and an extension of our own spirt week last week.

Putting Skills to Work

As designers and builders, we understand the importance of a well-built home. This opportunity allowed us to use our skills in a new way. We framed walls and floors, installed structural sheathing and helped correct inspection tasks while cleaning up the worksite. It was hands-on work, and we loved every minute.

Our team split into groups to tackle different tasks. Most focused on measuring, cutting and installing sheathing. While a few of us removed drywall returns at windows, fastened in anchoring lag bolts, and built floors and roof panels. We worked efficiently, drawing on our training and teamwork.

Though we work in design and construction, this experience was different. Habitat builds with limited resources and strong community spirit. We gained a deeper appreciation for the effort behind each nail and beam.

Community Connections

The homes that the team worked on were design by EVstudio in partnership with BoulderMOD to help provide some more affordable housing options to the Boulder Area. This program provides an indoor setting of a training facility for Habitat’s volunteers and Boulder Valley School District students to learn about construction while building homes for their own community. A noble pursuit for

Giving Back, Gaining Perspective

Volunteering reminded us why we do what we do. Designing buildings is important, but helping build someone’s future is priceless. We left the site with sore muscles and full hearts.

Habitat’s mission aligns closely with our company values. We believe in building responsibly and giving back to the community. This project allowed us to live those values in a direct, impactful way.

Looking Ahead

We plan to return for future Habitat builds. Many on our team have already signed up for the next opportunity. We encourage others in our field to do the same.

It’s easy to get lost in blueprints and deadlines. Stepping onto a build site brings everything into focus. It reminds us that architecture and engineering should always serve people first.

Join the Movement

If you’re looking for a way to give back, consider volunteering with Habitat for Humanity. No matter your skill level, your time makes a difference. You’ll leave with more than you give.

We’re grateful for the chance to serve, learn, and grow together. This experience strengthened our team and deepened our commitment to building a better world—one home at a time.
