Evergreen Fire/Rescue recently marked an exciting milestone for the community. In March, they held a groundbreaking ceremony at Station 2, located at 1802 Bergen Parkway. This event represents a major step forward in improving emergency services and crew safety.
In addition, EVstudio attended the groundbreaking as a proud partner of GTC Construction and architect Allred & Associates. The EVstudio civil team expressed excitement as the project officially began. Their involvement highlights the strong collaboration behind this important development.
Congratulations to Evergreen Fire/Rescue for this momentous achievement. Their commitment to serving the community continues to grow stronger.
A Project Designed for the Future
Station 2 has a long history of service. Originally built in 1978, the facility started as a simple garage for fire trucks. However, over time, the station expanded to meet growing demands. Now, the district is planning a full remodel and addition. This project aims to support crews for the next 50 years. The team is working with Allred & Associates to design a modern, efficient space. Importantly, the existing apparatus bays will remain in place. Meanwhile, other areas will undergo significant upgrades.
Key Improvements and Features
The remodel will bring meaningful improvements to both safety and daily operations. For example, the station will include designated hot, warm, and cold zones. These zones will help reduce carcinogen exposure from firefighting gear.
Additionally, the project will add:
- Expanded storage for equipment
- New sleeping quarters for staff and volunteers
- Office space for leadership
- A kitchen and dining area for shared meals
- A fitness room to support crew health
- A fire sprinkler system for added protection
As a result, firefighters and medical personnel will have a safer and more functional environment.
Construction Timeline and Process
The building committee has been actively working through the design phase. They are collaborating closely with architects and a general contractor. Next, the project will move through public review and approval. After that, plans will go out for bidding. Once bids are finalized, the contractor will provide a guaranteed maximum price. Construction is expected to begin in the spring. Crews may notice fencing, trailers, and equipment arriving on-site around that time. The full build is estimated to take 10 to 12 months.
Keeping Services Running During Construction
Despite the renovation, emergency services will not be interrupted. Fire trucks and ambulances will remain operational at Station 2. Meanwhile, crew members will temporarily relocate to the administration building. This space will be adapted to include sleeping quarters, offices, and a kitchen. However, public meeting spaces will be unavailable during construction. Still, administrative services will remain open to the community.
Staying Connected with Progress
Evergreen Fire/Rescue plans to share updates throughout the project. They will post progress reports, photos, and announcements online.
