EVstudio and GTC have had the pleasure of working with TLC Learning Center out of Longmont, Colorado via a design-build project.
TLC Learning Center specializes in providing early childhood education services tailored to infants, toddlers, and preschoolers. Accompanied by an on-site pediatric therapy center, TLC offers a comprehensive approach to preparing children for kindergarten. Their classrooms foster positive social-emotional growth and embrace a multi sensory learning methodology, nurturing a holistic educational setting that prioritizes each child’s overall development.
With the help of our design/build team, TLC proposed a new facility spanning 33,800 square feet, featuring 3 infant rooms, 7 pre-k classrooms, 9 toddler classrooms, as well as areas for therapy and movement to enhance motor skills, self-regulation, and social interaction among students.
To fund the project, TLC also collaborated with Wild Plum, another early childhood organization focused on integrating
families into the curriculum of early childhood education. The intent was for the building to host separate TLC and Wild Plum operations as well as 8,000 square feet of office space to accommodate administrative needs for both programs.
The design needed to accommodate the licensing requirements of TLC classrooms as well as those of Wild Plum, a Head Start program with stricter spatial and plumbing requirements. The design also needed to be sensitive to the different learning environments required from the diverse body of students.
Therapy and movement spaces needed to accommodate swings, climbing walls, etc. GTC was integral to finding ideal construction solutions to accommodate a wide range of dynamic design elements.
The project site presented challenges with parking requirements and setbacks from the Oligarchy Ditch, compounded by downhill sloping. Overcoming these hurdles involved optimizing the building footprint to accommodate all necessary programs so the site could accommodate necessary parking and playground space requirements.
GTC and EV worked together to optimize the site for operations and construction, as well as ideal structural and foundation solutions for challenging soils. Fundraising efforts were key in the development and vision for the project. EVstudio helped develop fundraising materials for different stakeholder groups throughout the design process.
