Jefferson County Colorado Appendix Z – Special Building Construction Regulations in Wildfire Zone 1
The recently adopted Jefferson County Appendix Z, or Special Building Construction Regulations in Wildfire Zone 1, effective 1/1/2020, is an addendum of both the 2018 International Building Code (IBC) and International Residential Code (IRC) supplements that requires an increase in requirements for fire-resistant construction.
The increased requirements affect new buildings and alterations to existing buildings in what’s designated as Wildfire Zone 1 or locations above 6,400 feet in elevation. This is roughly two-thirds of the county.
