Modular Construction Expands Affordable Housing in Boulder
Affordable housing continues to be a pressing challenge across Colorado, and Boulder is taking meaningful steps toward addressing it. A recent development at the Ponderosa Mobile Home Park highlights how modular construction and community partnerships are moving the needle toward long-term housing solutions.
A Collaborative Effort for Housing Stability
Flatirons Habitat for Humanity, in partnership with Boulder Valley School District, is currently constructing energy-efficient, permanently affordable modular homes for residents in the Ponderosa community. This work reflects a growing shift toward housing models that are faster to deliver, cost-effective, and scalable — all while supporting families who want to remain rooted in the communities they call home.
CBS News recently shared an update showcasing active construction at the site, where new duplex units are taking shape. You can read their full coverage and project highlights here: Check out the article CBS News released.
Education Meets Innovation: BoulderMOD
A key component of the project is BoulderMOD, a modular construction facility where students in the district’s Apex program gain hands-on building experience. By integrating educational pathways with real housing needs, the initiative supports both the workforce of tomorrow and the residents of today.
The partnership not only speeds up the delivery of homes — it builds skills, confidence, and career opportunities within the local community.
A Home Built With Care
For many families in the neighborhood, this project represents more than construction progress — it represents stability. As one resident expressed in the CBS feature, those who live there “probably couldn’t afford a home if it wasn’t for this project.”
Projects like these showcase how modular design continues to shape the future of housing in Colorado, offering attainable paths forward for affordability, sustainability, and community investment.
