Why the Housing Colorado Conference Belongs on Your Calendar
If you do anything with affordable housing in Colorado and you skip the Housing Colorado conference, you’re probably missing out. I spent most of last week in Keystone at the Housing Colorado annual conference, and it reminded me why the trip is worth it.
Introducing Mike Drop
Keystone is also where I filmed the sneak peek of a new video series I’m calling Mike Drop. Every so often, I’ll come at you with bite-sized nuggets of knowledge about all things multifamily. The episodes are short and practical, so you can watch one between meetings.
Episode 00 starts where a lot of good multifamily projects start: in a room full of the people who make them happen.
Who Attends the Housing Colorado Conference
The Housing Colorado conference is the statewide gathering for the affordable housing community. Developers, lenders, housing authorities, city staff and, yes, architects all show up. In other words, it gathers basically anyone who has to say yes to a building before it gets built. Plus, they’re all in one place with more coffee and snacks than anyone could ever need.
Why Architects Belong in the Room
For architects, that mix matters. Every affordable deal involves a long list of decision-makers, and each one brings different priorities. When we meet them in one place, we hear those priorities firsthand instead of secondhand. As a result, we can design around funding, approval and operational realities from day one.
Plan Ahead: It Sells Out Fast
Fair warning: this conference sells out fast. Like, Taylor Swift fast. So if you’re looking at an affordable deal, or looking for partners in the affordable space, put next year’s conference on your calendar now.
