EVstudio recently observed the wall steel for a custom home we designed in Castle Rock. This home is unique with basement walls that exceed 20ft in height creating a sub basement for the sports court. In addition, the home has a walkout basement with a pool located inside the basement.
The basement walls were braced by large counterforts to prevent the foundation walls from moving due to lateral soil pressure. The counterforts have large footings that use the weight of the soil above the footing to create a resisting force to the lateral pressure of the soil on the wall. The use of counterforts along with additional bracing at the top of the wall from the framing and bottom from the slab-on-grade will provide excellent support.
