Giving Back at BoulderMOD: Building Homes, Strengthening Communities
On July 22, our EVolution design studio team stepped away from our desks and into the BoulderMOD factory to support BoulderMOD affordable housing efforts firsthand. We spent the day volunteering alongside dedicated community partners. The experience reminded us that great design extends beyond drawings and into the communities we serve.
BoulderMOD is an innovative partnership between the City of Boulder, Flatirons Habitat for Humanity, and the Boulder Valley School District. Together, these organizations create affordable housing while providing valuable workforce training opportunities. Their collaboration helps address the growing need for attainable housing in Boulder County.

A Hands-On Day of Building
Our team jumped into several stages of the construction process. We assisted with framing, sheathing, flooring, and painting throughout the day. Every task contributed to preparing modular homes for future homeowners.
This volunteer day held special meaning for our team. We helped build from the plans our team designed for the BoulderMOD facility. Seeing those designs become reality created a rewarding full-circle experience. We gained valuable insight into how our design decisions translate into construction. That perspective will strengthen future projects and improve collaboration with builders.
The factory environment encouraged collaboration and problem-solving. Experienced staff guided us through each task with patience and enthusiasm. Their expertise made every project both educational and rewarding.
Connecting Design with Construction
As designers, we often see projects through plans, models, and specifications. Volunteering at BoulderMOD allowed us to experience construction from a different viewpoint.
Building from plans our team helped create made the experience especially meaningful. We observed how thoughtful design supports efficient construction and quality workmanship. That hands-on perspective reinforces our commitment to designing practical, buildable spaces.
